Breaking: More postcodes added to lockdown | Stricter lockdown to come

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced that two new postcodes will be added to the Stage 3 lockdown orders. Further, under stricter long down orders, residents in some apartment towers will be ordered not to leave their apartments at all.

The postcodes which will be added to the Stage 3 restrictions are 3031 (Kensington and Flemington) and 3051 (North Melbourne). The residents in these suburbs join others under stay at home orders. They will only be allowed to leave their homes for four reasons:

1- Food and essential supplies;

2- Medical care and caregiving;

3- Exercise

4- Work and education which can not be done at home.

The two new postcodes will enter stay at home orders from 11:59 pm on Saturday 4 July 2020.

Under further stricter lockdowns, residents in nine public housing towers will be restricted to their apartments. They will not be able to leave their apartments even for exercise or food. Further, all residents will be tested. This stricter lockdown will last for 5 days. It is effective immediately.

There are approximately 3,000 people living in the affected apartment blocks. The lockdown on the apartment blocks is effective immediately. Victoria Police will be patrolling and enforcing the lockdown in these towers.

The decision to implement further lockdowns came after Victoria recorded 108 new coronavirus cases overnight.

The Premier has not ruled out returning to statewide Stage 3 restrictions (stay at home orders).
